It has been years since floppy disks have transformed themselves into much smaller drives called “Pen Drives” making it easier to store and carry data from one computer to another. Computer users always craved for something that can carry huge amount of documents easily and safely. To this, Pen Drives have emerged as a solution. Accessing and transporting data has been made easier with the use of the same.
Basically, USB flash drives are NAND- type flash memory data storage devices integrated with a USB connector. They are typically small, lightweight, removable and rewritable. They offer many advantages over other portable storage devices, particularly the floppy drive. They are more compact, faster, hold more data, are more reliable due to their lack of moving parts, and have a more durable design compared to that of a floppy drive. Additionally, it has become increasingly common for computers to be manufactures without floppy disk drives. USB ports, on the other hand, appear on almost every current mainstream PC and laptop. These types of drives use the USB mass storage standard, supported by modern operating systems such as Windows, Mac OS X and other Linux systems. All major manufactures like Jet flash, Sony, Apacer, Sandisk, Lexar, Ritek Ridata, Transcend, Kingston, Super media, Super Flash, etc provide data retrieval for both type of formatting and deletion, either by Apple Macintosh or Microsoft Windows operating system. Transcend and Kingston are among the leaders making waves in the pen drive industry.
These small pen drives, though small in shape and size, have a massive data storage capacity ranging from 32 MB to 8 GB which is about 5600 times more than a 1.44 MB floppy disk. It doesn’t require any batteries and is a dust proof and shock proof device. Compatible to be used in PC`s and laptops, they do not need any cables or software but just a USB port on your computer or laptop. These drives just need to be plugged into the USB port, which automatically detects it.
The manufacturers are now trying to add a few features onto these. They are available with lots of added features such as MP3 playback, built-in Cameras, fingerprint biometric privacy etc. The most common usage of these pen drives is for transporting data from one computer to another. Even while repairing of computers and retrieving lost data, Transcend Pen Drives are known to play a major role. They can also be used for data back-ups and transfer recovery software or anti virus software to the infected machines.
Now that the USB pen drive is a rage, it is supposedly earmarked to be the next big thing in the computer Industry.
Thank you for your comment on my blog; I read this about Pen Drives and I have to say I did’nt know that. Thank You for the imfo. Paul
